    Welcome to the University of Kentucky, here in Lexington. Founded in 1865 by John Bryan Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky, this public land-grant research university is one of the state's two land-grant universities, the other being Kentucky State University.

    Your walk brings you to Transylvania University, Kentucky's oldest university, founded in 1780 as the first college west of the Allegheny Mountains. Founded in 1780 and chartered by the Virginia General Assembly as Transylvania Seminary before Kentucky became a state, this institution is Kentucky's oldest university and was the first college west of the Allegheny Mountains.

    Spread across 170 acres, Lexington Cemetery at 833 W. Main Street is a private, non-profit rural cemetery and arboretum. Established in 1848 as a place of beauty and a public cemetery — in part to deal with burials from the 1833 cholera epidemic — this landscape was later linked to the Civil War when what became Lexington National Cemetery was established in 1861 to inter American Civil War casualties.

This 6,250-seat multi-purpose arena opened in 1950 and was built as a memorial to Kentuckians who died in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War; later the names of all Kentuckians who died in the Vietnam War were added.
