Highlights

  • Empower Field at Mile High
    Empower Field at Mile High

Six decades of professional football have given Denver some of its most intense moments of civic pride and pain, and you have reached the home of the team responsible, the Denver Broncos. The Denver Broncos were founded in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League, the upstart league that merged with the NFL in 1970.

  • Coors Field

Coors Field is the ballpark credited, only partly hyperbolically, with saving downtown Denver. When the Colorado Rockies chose this site in 1991, the surrounding warehouse district was largely derelict.

  • Denver Union Station, 7/15/2006, 7:01 am Ski Train to depart soon. Picture I photographed. Public Domain.
    Union Station

Notice the great arched windows and the TRAVEL BY TRAIN sign marking Denver's front door for more than a century. Union Station opened in 1881 when Denver was barely twenty years old and the railroads were the arteries of the American West.

  • Denver Art Museum

Italian architect Gio Ponti completed this seven-story tower, the original Denver Art Museum, in 1971, and you are looking at one of the most distinctive buildings in the American West. Ponti, then in his eighties, created a building unlike anything else in Denver: a seven-story tower clad in more than a million gray glass tiles that catch light differently at every hour of the day.

  • The Molly Brown House Museum in Denver, Colorado. Was the home of Margaret Brown, known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" because she survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic. It was built in the 1880s by William Lang and restored in the 1970s. Note: nearly 2 feet (70cm) of snow fell in Denver on the day this picture was taken.
    Molly Brown House

Picture the newspapers dubbing her the Unsinkable Molly Brown after she survived the RMS Titanic's sinking on April 15, 1912 — this was her Denver home. Margaret Tobin Brown was born in Hannibal, Missouri in 1867 and came to Colorado in the early 1880s seeking opportunity.
