-
Willis Tower (Sears Tower)Your eyes meet what was, for nearly twenty-five years, the tallest building on Earth. Completed in 1973 as the Sears Tower, it rises 1,450 feet on Wacker Drive and held the world height record until 1998.
-
Soldier FieldSoldier Field was built as a war memorial, and its Doric colonnades face you. Soldier Field opened in 1924 and was dedicated in 1925 to the soldiers of the World Wars, its long Doric colonnades meant to evoke an ancient temple.
-
Wrigley FieldWrigley Field, the second-oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, waits in front of you. Wrigley Field opened in 1914, first home to a Federal League team, then to the Chicago Cubs from 1916 onward.
-
Cloud Gate (The Bean)
Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate, the sculpture everyone calls the Bean, was unveiled in 2006. Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate was unveiled in its finished form in 2006, the centerpiece of Millennium Park, which was built atop old railyards and parking lots that had scarred this edge of Grant Park for a century.
-
Art Institute of Chicago Lions
Two bronze lions guard the front steps of the Art Institute, and your path runs between them. Edward Kemeys sculpted them, and they were placed here in 1894, just after the building itself opened.
